Best of Macworld ‘08

Moscone

Macworld 2008 was a blast! I’m still getting back into my routine, but I wanted to blog about my some of my experiences.

Favorite Booths

Macheist

MacHeist
The MacHeist booth was very well designed and staffed. I love the way they created a visualization for the apps, and a live sales/charity feed. Great work guys!

Panic

Panic’s Coda Booth
I may be a bit biased, but the team from Panic have such a passion for what they do that it is hard not to notice. They went above and beyond with their cool lighting, free Coda-branded M&M’s, and beautiful flyers (complete with Spot UV Coating on the Coda leaf).

Favorite Apps

BusySync
I don’t usually find an app that I just HAVE to buy, but BusySync isn’t any normal app. It’s an app that syncs your iCal calendars over your local network, the internet (if you have a static IP address), and with Google Calendars (this feature was demoed, but not released yet). Not only does it copy your events over, but it lets you make changes to those events and the changes are instantly synced with your other systems.

Favorite Apple Announcements

Stevenote

LED Backlight on Macbook Air
I won’t be buying one of these, but just the idea that they are moving to LED backlighting is great!

Stevenote

Apple TV Update
I have an Apple TV and I am SO excited that they are adding these new features to the firmware. Now I can have Apple TV downloading my HD podcasts and use iPod formatted podcasts on my Mac. Also, the iTunes store built into the Apple TV is something i’ve been wanting for a long time!

Favorite Food

Me

‘Wichcraft
Don’t let the name confuse you. This place is a great, high quality sandwich shop in the middle of a bunch of not-so-good restaurants. Great eating just a block away from Moscone Center. Thanks to Cabel for pointing this out to me.

New Delhi
I went here with Mike Gonzalez, Andrew Wilkinson, William Wilkinson, Luke Seeley, Chris Nielson, Mike Matas, Phill Ryu, and Austin Sarner. I had some of the best curry of my life here. Just the right amount of spice and flavor!

Fireside Cafe
If it’s a quick meal that you want, look no further than the Fireside Cafe. Located in the Metreon, they have some great fast-food pasta at a great price. It may not be a 4-star gourmet meal, but it’s still very good.

XYZ at the W hotel
This was one of the most fancy restaurants i’ve visited. Certainly the fanciest of my Macworld trip. For some serious money they’ve got some great gourmet food. I would recommend it to anyone looking for fine dining near Moscone Center.

In-N-Out Burger

In-N-Out Burger
I finally got a chance to try In-N-Out Burger. Better than most fast food, not quite gourmet.

Favorite Party

Delicious Generation Party
On Wednesday, the Macheist team through a neat party. There was music, mac developers and enthusiasts, sushi, and lots to drink. It was a great environment to meet new people and relax after a long day.
