Announcing Refresh Portland
For quite a while I’ve been seeking for a community in my area (Portland, OR) that would be just for web designers to hang out, share tips, and network with other web designers.
I’ve found that Portland has quite a variety of tech-related events and communities, but none specifically for web designers. I set out to solve this by starting Refresh Portland.
Refresh groups are common in many cities, and well known as a community for designers. The name may make it sound like some charity organization, but really it’s about designers sharing with other designers. From the parent group – Refreshing Cities:
“Refresh is a community of designers and developers working to refresh the creative, technical, and professional culture of New Media endeavors in their areas. Promoting design, technology, usability, and standards”
As soon as I made my initial announcement about Refresh PDX on twitter, a few people mentioned that they had also been trying, or had previously tried to start a Refresh group. We got together and decided to combine our efforts.
Now I'm pleased to announce that we have our premiere event scheduled for Sept. 10th, and we’ve launched our official website at: http://refreshportland.org
Events will be held every month, on the second Wednesday. We will be holding our events at Jive Software’s great new space, and after each event, a group of us will head out to Henry’s for some dinner, drinks, and conversation.
I’m very excited about this new group, and I hope to see many web designers from Portland there. Even if you don’t live in Portland, I welcome you to attend if you are in town on the right dates.
Let us know you’re coming to Refresh Portland at Upcoming.
